Civil Unrest in Hong Kong Escalates

During today’s strike in Hong Kong, large areas of the city were paralyzed due to crowds and roadblocks. At least 200 flights were cancelled. Protesters disrupted rail travel, and several lines of the MTR were suspended. Reports indicate that two taxis and one private car rammed through roadblocks and narrowly missed people on the streets. Police used multiple rounds of teargas, pepper spray, and rubber bullets to attempt to disperse crowds.

Advice

If travelling in Hong Kong, be aware that unexpected and planned protests are likely to continue. Protests have become violent with police using tactics to disperse crowds. Minimize your safety risk by avoiding all areas of large crowds or protests.
