Hepatitis A exposure in Tulum, Mexico

At least 27 travellers returning to the USA were exposed to and infected by hepatitis A virus while visiting Tulum, Mexico from about mid-February to mid-March. Hepatitis A can be prevented through vaccination. When there is a risk of exposure to hepatitis A virus, travellers can reduce this risk by obtaining the vaccine prior to travelling and by exercising caution and avoiding consuming contaminated food and water.
