Large food poisoning outbreak in Misamis Oriental, Philippines

At least 200 people were hospitalized due to food poisoning after eating food served in a village in Medina, Misamis Oriental yesterday. There were no deaths, and the cause of the outbreak has not been identified. Travellers can reduce the risk of exposure to the many germs found in food and water that cause intestinal illness (such as cholera, E.coli, salmonella, and many viruses) by following food and water recommendations. Avoid food and beverages sold by street vendors. Practise careful personal hygiene with frequent hand washing.
