Malaria is a major risk in Rwanda

According to official statistics, last year (2014) there were approximately 1,600,000 reported cases of malaria nationwide in a population of almost 12 million people. This was a substantial increase over the number reported in 2013. Travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
