COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Oman (7 December Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

• Yes

• Citizens and residents of Oman can enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

• No with exceptions

• Travellers with a valid residency visa may enter.

• Nationals of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are allowed to enter.

• Foreign workers can apply for a visa through online or at Sanad offices if they are granted a permit by the Ministry of Labour.

• Oman has resumed issuing tourist visas to the travellers arriving in groups organized by hotels or travel agencies.

Is transit allowed through the country?

• No

• Transit is not allowed through Oman.

Is a test required on arrival?

• Yes

• Arriving travellers will have a COVID-19 test on arrival. Travellers aged below 15 years are exempted from this requirement.

• All travellers (except the people aged below 15 years) arriving in Oman are subject to health screening.

• Anyone wishing to depart Oman will have their temperature checked. If they have any symptoms of COVID-19, the traveller may be denied leaving.

Is a test certificate allowed?

• Yes

• Test certificates issued by any foreign country will be accepted.

Test certificate required?

• Yes

• Arriving travellers must have a negative COVID-19 test certificate issued within the last 96-hours prior to arrival. It must be in English.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

• Yes

• All travellers arriving in Oman are subject to a mandatory 7-days quarantine either at their own residence or at a hotel at their own expense upon arrival. All such arrivals will undergo a COVID-19 test on the eighth day and will be allowed to leave quarantine after getting a negative test result.

• If a traveller is staying for less than 7 days in Oman, then they will be allowed to leave quarantine if their result from the test conducted on arrival is negative.

• All arriving travellers are required to wear a tracking bracelet during the isolation period.

Insurance required?

• Yes

• All foreigners allowed to enter Oman must have a valid health insurance policy that covers COVID-19 treatment expenses for their stay in Oman.

Entry form required?

• Travellers will need to complete a “Traveler registration form” before boarding. The form can be found here.

Recommended Border App

• Yes

• All travellers arriving in Oman must download the contact tracing application “Tarassud +” and complete the registration process. Through the Tarassud app, travellers will also need to pay for the COVID-19 test conducted on arrival.

• Anyone wishing to stay more than seven days will need to download the Hmushrif app.

Airline restrictions

• Commercial flight services have resumed at a reduced level to and from some destinations based on the epidemic situation of the foreign countries. The destinations include Bangladesh, Bahrain, Ethiopia, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Pakistan, Qatar, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, Tanzania, United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.

• Domestic flights are operating at a reduced level.

• Repatriation flights may be available.

• Residents arriving in Oman airports will need to show either proof of their accommodation or a letter from their sponsor to prove they have accommodation.

• Meet and greet at the airport will not be allowed. Only one person will be allowed to accompany the traveller for any emergency case.

• Land borders are open.

• The land border with UAE has reopened. Omani citizens are allowed to enter UAE without any approval from the UAE.

• Oman citizens are permitted to travel outside the country provided they register their travel with authorities and quarantine upon return. However, they must stay 14 days in their destination country.

• Cruise ships are prohibited from docking at Oman’s ports.

Curfew restrictions

• There is no curfew in place.

Social distancing restrictions

• Mass gatherings are banned until further notice.

Internal travel restrictions

• Face masks are mandatory.

• Movement in streets and other public places is allowed.

• Public transport services are currently operating.

• Inter-governorate movement is allowed.

• Buses and ferries to Musandam and the Wilayat of Masirah are currently available.

• Shop and businesses are allowed to resume services.

• Businesses are allowed to open in Wadi Kabir Industrial Area and Hamriya, Muscat Governorate, from 07:00 to 18:00 (local time). All businesses are closed on Thursdays and Fridays.

• Shopping malls and meeting halls are open. Swimming pools and gyms in hotels, fitness clubs, fish markets, tailor shops, traditional markets (souqs), and tobacconists have opened.
