The 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Ramidanda at 11:47 hours (local time), as reported by Nepal&#8217;s National Seismological Centre. The German Research Centre for Geosciences initially estimated the earthquake&#8217;s magnitude at 6.2 but later revised it down to 5.7. The US Geological Survey recorded it as 5.6. The earthquake is the deadliest to hit Nepal since the devastating quakes of 2015 that killed over 9,000 people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"970\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sitata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/nepal-at-least-128-people-killed-in-overnight-earthquake.jpg\" alt=\"earthquake in nepal\" class=\"wp-image-113189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sitata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/nepal-at-least-128-people-killed-in-overnight-earthquake.jpg 970w, https:\/\/www.sitata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/nepal-at-least-128-people-killed-in-overnight-earthquake-480x240.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 970px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>AFTERMATH<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The earthquake left over 153 dead and over 250 injured across the country. Over 4,000 homes were damaged in the districts hit hardest by the disaster, mainly in the Jajarkot and Rukum West districts. Landslides have blocked and damaged several roads. The government\u2019s search and rescue mission has been completed. An estimate of over 1.3 million people have been affected. With the epicenter in Jajarkot and a depth of 17.9 km, tremors were reported in regions across Nepal and several parts of North India, including New Delhi.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The earthquake was followed by multiple aftershocks, a major one three days after the initial earthquake. On 6 November, at 16:31 hours, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Ramindanda. This was followed by multiple smaller quakes. These quakes led to some landslides and injured at least 16 people. No deaths were reported.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nepal is prone to earthquakes due to its position on the tectonically active border of the Eurasian Plate and the Indian Plate. As the pressure builds up under the Himalayas, more earthquakes are likely in the area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The earthquake in Jajarkot has caused significant damage and affected many lives. Due to the remote hilly terrain in the area and cold weather, rescue operations have been disrupted. Response efforts are underway, with a focus on medical assistance, shelter, and relief. The priority remains on the safety and well-being of affected communities. While access to some of the affected areas remains difficult due to damaged infrastructure and landslides, several countries continue to send aid and efforts remain underway.
