11 deaths due to dengue fever reported so far this year in Malaysia

During the month of January, health officials in Malaysia reported a total of 2,854 cases of dengue fever with 11 deaths nationwide. Most of the cases were reported from the Genting Highlands.

Travellers to this area can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
