16 US states report sporadic cases of West Nile fever

So far this year, there have been 55 reported cases and 3 deaths due to West Nile fever. Among the 16 states that have reported sporadic cases of this infection, California has reported the largest number, 15 cases. Since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
