2 cases of a new severe respiratory avian flu H5N6

There are reports of 2 people in China who have been infected with a new strain of avian influenza called H5N6 that causes severe pneumonia. One of the cases has died. The cases were reported in the cities of Nanchong and Panyu (Guangdong Province). Whether or not this virus becomes a major public health problem remains to be seen. However, all travellers to China should avoid visiting live poultry markets where several strains of bird flu may be found.
