Advice For Travellers

One of the principal means of transmission of Chagas Disease in the affected areas is through consumption of a beverage made from the açaí palm tree fruit. The homemade beverage is often prepared in unhygienic conditions that permit contamination by the insect that carries Chagas Disease. While the risk is low for the general traveller, avoidance of consumption of homemade açaí will minimize exposure to this disease.
