7 Municipalities in Alagoas State, Brazil, report epidemics of dengue

Municipalities in Alagoas that report epidemic levels of dengue fever have increased from 4 to 7. The additional municipalities include Maravilha, Santana do Ipanema and Senador Rui Palmeira. Across the state, there have been 3,608 reported cases, an increase compared to the same time period last year.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
