900 reported cases of chikungunya in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.

Health authorities have reported close to 900 cases of chikungunya in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo. The 1st district of the capital, Makelekele, is the most affected. There are no reported deaths from chikungunya thus far.

Chikungunya rarely causes death, however, it is a serious disease causing high fever, muscle and joint pain and other symptoms. Travellers should be aware of the increased risk of chikungunya in this area and take precautions against mosquito bites.
