A few more dengue fever cases near Cairns, Australia

Dengue fever has spread south of Cairns where 2 new cases were found in Tully and one in nearby El Arish. This brings the total to 16 cases for the area during this rainy season. While the total number of cases is small, travellers to any areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
