Alarming dengue fever risk in Ceará, Brazil

Every week, 1,000 new cases of dengue fever are reported in the state of Ceará since mid-April. There have been 9 deaths among the more than 8,000 reported cases. A total of 118 municipalities have reported cases of this infection, and 17 have reached epidemic levels.

Advice For Travellers

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
