Alarming malaria situation in Bolivar State, Venezuela

Although official information is lacking, there are reports of serious increases in the number of people infected with malaria. Some authorities estimate that there have been approximately 180,000 cases nationwide, but that 80 percent of these have occurred in Bolivar. Some experts state that it is now dangerous to travel to Bolivar because of the high risk of malaria.
