"Alarming" rate of spread of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Oriental Region, Morocco

A least 100 people have been infected with cutaneous (skin) leishmaniasis in the district of Ouled Sidi Abdelhakem, Ain Bni Mathar municipality, Jerada province, in the region of Oriental.

Leishmaniaisis occurs in many parts of Morocco. While the risk for the average traveller is low, it may be higher in areas with concentrations of sand flies that transmit the disease.
