All persons infected with Nipah virus in the 1st outbreak of 2012 in Bangladesh have died.

Health officials have reported that all 6 of the persons infected with Nipah virus died in the outbreak in Joypurhat in January 2012.

Travellers can reduce the risk of exposure to Nipah virus by avoiding consuming unheated palm juice. Heating the palm juice to at least 70 degrees Celsius [158 F] destroys the virus.
