An outbreak of hepatitis A is under investigation in Auckland, New Zealand

Health authorities have confirmed an outbreak of hepatitis A involving 19 cases, some of which are school aged children. The source of the outbreak is under investigation.

Travellers should be aware that hepatitis A is preventable through vaccination. Vaccination is recommended prior to travelling. At present, there is a risk of exposure to hepatitis A virus in Auckland, and travellers can reduce this risk by exercising caution and avoiding consuming contaminated food and water.
