Another outbreak of measles in New Zealand

The current outbreak of measles in Auckland has resulted in the hospitalization of 3 cases. Health authorities have identified a total of 17 cases. All the cases could be traced to one initial infection. While it is not clear where the initial case contracted the infection, there have been 5 cases of measles in travellers arriving in New Zealand this year. A quarantine has been imposed for 140 potentially exposed students from at least two schools.

Travellers to this area should be aware of the risk of exposure to the highly infectious measles virus and ensure that their childhood vaccinations are up-to-date.
