Another suspected outbreak of Ebola haemorrhagic fever in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

There are reports of another possible outbreak of Ebola haemorrhagic fever in the Haut Uele District of Orientale Province about 50 km from the confirmed outbreak in Kibaale. So far 4 out of 7 suspected cases have died. Samples have been sent to the main laboratory in Uganda for confirmation.

Until the cause of these deaths has been confirmed, any travellers in this area should avoid any direct contact with anyone suspected to have this infection since it is highly contagious and lethal. Transmission often occurs during burial rituals for deceased patients, close physical contact with infected persons and their body fluids, during sexual contact or within hospitals through contact with blood and body fluids of infected persons.
