Another typhoid fever outbreak in Zimbabwe

A typhoid outbreak has been reported in Dzivaresekwa, a suburb of Harare, and in an area about 10 kilometres from the capital city. Approximately 15-16 patients, including school children, have been seeking care at the local hospital each day during the past week. Failure to provide clean water supplies to residents is being blamed for the outbreak. Travellers to this city and the surrounding area can reduce their risk of exposure to typhoid fever by being cautious and avoiding consuming contaminated food or water. Vaccination against typhoid fever should be considered, especially if unsafe food cannot be avoided.
