Anti-Government Protest in Haiti on 21 October

Teachers’ unions have announced a peaceful protest march for Monday, 21 October, against the misappropriation of aid money from Venezuela to Haiti and to demand the resignation of the president of Haiti. The march will begin at the girls’ high school, continue to Delmas 60 and Bourdon, and end at the Lycée Jean Jacques Dessalines.

Advice

Although this march is expected to be peaceful, violent protests are frequent in Haiti. Some countries advise citizens to avoid travel to Haiti due to the unstable safety and security situation. If in Haiti, have safety plans in place. Avoid any areas of protests as the event intended to be peaceful can escalate unexpectedly and quickly become violent.
