Anti-immigrant violence continues for a second night in South Africa

For a second night, looting, setting cars on fire, blocking roads, and attacks against foreign-owned shops continued in Johannesburg. Much of the unrest is occurring in districts in the Gauteng Province. Police are responding with tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse crowds.

Tensions remain high. Clashes have occurred in Thokoza, Alexandria, Cleveland, Malvern, Protea Glen, Soweto, and Jeppestown. Avoid these areas and any large public gathering. Five people have died in attacks, and even reporters have been threatened.
