Areas of East Coast of USA receiving heavy rainfall -State of emergency declared in South Carolina

Much of the East Coast of the United States is getting record-breaking rainfall. High winds have led to airline delays at airports on the East Coast. Flood watches and warnings also are in effect in Delaware and parts of New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia.

Unusually heavy rainfall is causing major coastal flooding, particularly in North and South Carolina. South Carolina is under a state of emergency due to flooding. Many roads are impassable. In North Carolina, about 60 roads have been closed due to local flooding. Continued heavy rainfall is expected to contribute to more flooding over the weekend.
