Armed conflict escalates in southern Israel and Gaza

The violence that began building up three weeks ago is escalating, and a new wave of Israeli airstrikes bombarded areas of Gaza early Thursday. At least 81 Palestinians have been killed. There are no reports of Israeli fatalities. The Israeli prime minister stated the offensive would continue and expand until Gaza militants stop rocket fire into Israel.

Some countries are advising citizens in Israel to review emergency procedures. Some countries are advising citizens to avoid all areas within 40 kilometers of the border with Gaza and to reconsider the actual need to travel to the West Bank, Gaza Strip and nearby areas in southern Israel.
