Army called in to help contain dengue fever in Campinas, Brazil

With 52 confirmed cases and 321 suspected cases of dengue fever in the city of Campinas in just the month of January, health authorities have requested the assistance of the armed forces to help contain the spread of the disease. There may be many more cases. Counting and reporting cases of dengue may be hampered by lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
