At least 231 injured in violent clashes between protesters and armed groups of men in Cairo.

Violent clashes between pro-reform protesters and groups of men armed with knives, sticks, and petrol bombs have left more than 231 people injured in Cairo. The demonstrators were marching toward Egypt's ministry of defence, calling for the “downfall” of the country's ruling military council. The military used tear gas and fired into the air to attempt to control the crowd.

Travellers are reminded that the political and domestic situation in Egypt remains somewhat volatile following the revolution against the former government of President Mubarak. Travellers should exercise extreme caution and avoid public gatherings and demonstrations since they might become violent quickly.
