At least 27 dead in mass killing in Caserio La Bomba, Guatemala.

Gunmen have killed at least 25 men and 2 women, decapitating most of them, in one of the worst mass killings in Guatemala since the end of its civil war in 1996. The killing occurred in the town of Caserio La Bomba in Peten province near the border with Mexico. Police say the violence could be linked to the drug trafficking business as Guatemala's northern border is an active drug transfer point.

Guatemala has one of the highest violent crime rates in Latin America, with most incidents related to drug or gang violence. Travellers should always be aware of their surroundings and exercise extreme caution, particularly at the border with Mexico.
