At lest 10 municipalities report dengue fever epidemics in Paraná, Brazil

So far this year, there have been 1,540 reported cases of dengue fever in the state of Paraná. The municipality of Loanda, where the infection has reached epidemic levels, has reported the second death this year in the state. Other municipalities on the list of cities with epidemic levels of disease include São João do Caiuá, Marilândia do Sul, Uraí, Itaúna do Sul, Paranapoema, São Pedro do Paraná, Rio Bom, Jataizinho and Riacho Alegre do Oeste.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
