Attack by gunmen on prime ministers local office increases violence in Athens, Greece

In the early morning hours, unidentified gunmen opened fire on the headquarters of Greece's governing New Democracy party. Although no one was injured, there are fears that violent opposition to the current financial crisis is escalating. There have been several makeshift bomb attacks against journalists and political figures in the past week. Travellers should exercise extreme caution until tensions subside. In this situation, travellers should avoid political venues, government buildings and any and all political demonstrations since they may be occasions for violence.
