Authorities in Indonesia warn of dengue epidemics during coming rainy season

The government of Indonesia has warned the public that there may be significant epidemics of dengue fever during the coming rainy season. Last year a total of 1,400 deaths, mostly in children, were recorded due to dengue fever. Provinces such as East Java, Yogyakarta, Central Kalimantan, Jambi, Lampung, and North Sulawesi are often the most affected.

Travellers to Indonesia, especially to these areas, should monitor reports of dengue fever outbreaks and take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
