Avian flu H7N9 continues to cause sporadic deaths in China

Fujian Province has confirmed the deaths of 2 people due to the severe respiratory avian flu strain H7N9. There have been 15 cases of this serious infection in the past 2 weeks. A case was also reported from the adjacent provinces of Jiangxi and Zhejiang. The total number of reported cases increased last year for a total of 310.

Although the risk for travellers is very low, the best way to minimize any chance of exposure is to avoid visiting live poultry markets while in China.
