Belo Horizonte City in Minas Gerais (Brazil) has major dengue fever problem

The city of Belo Horizonte has recorded more than 17,000 suspected and confirmed cases of dengue fever this year. Most of the cases have occurred in April and May which is the period of highest transmission of this virus. Across the entire state, there have been almost 171,500 cases.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
