Bombs detonated in Lamitan City, Basilan Province, Philippines

Two bombs were detonated almost simultaneously in Lamitan City, Basilan. One explosion occurred in front of the house of the Lamitan Vice Mayor along Aguinaldo Street, while the second explosion happened six minutes later at the main gate of the San Isidro Chapel. The bombings may be retaliation by the Abu Sayyaf insurgent group. No injuries or deaths were reported. Travellers should be aware that there are on-going armed confrontations between separatist groups and the military throughout the far southern areas of Mindanao. Several countries advise their citizens to avoid all travel in these areas.
