Both dengue and chikungunya fever viruses are active in Ahmedabad, India

So far this year, a total of 39 cases of chikungunya fever have been reported with 20 of these cases registered in July alone. In addition, there has been an increase in dengue fever cases to a total of 130 cases, also in July. Travellers to areas where dengue and chikungunya fever viruses are active can reduce their risk of exposure to these viruses by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with chikungunya and/or dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases of both these infections in the community that are not reported.
