Brazil and Colombia continue to report high numbers of dengue fever cases

Cases and outbreaks continue to be reported by various regions of Brazil and Colombia.

  • Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul state) - 2,765 suspected and confirmed cases.
  • Colombia (Valle del Cauca department) - 23,120 cases with 74 possible deaths.
Many cases of dengue fever are not reported. Counting and reporting cases may be difficult due to lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness do not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
