Brazil on alert against dengue fever, Chikungunya, and Zika virus

The city of Ji-Paraná is on alert after seeing 140 people infected with dengue fever, 15 cases of Chikungunya, and 19 people with Zika already this year. City officials are worried about the empty land that could be a good breeding ground for the mosquito that spreads these diseases.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where these viruses are active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue, chikungunya or Zika infections do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
