Travellers should be aware that safety standards can be poor in Thailand and transportation accidents are relatively common. Although the Thai government is actively working to reduce road deaths, about 13,000 people die in road accidents each year. Travellers should use as much caution as possible, such as avoid travelling during a festival since drunk driving is a main problem and avoid travelling at night. Also, 61 percent of accidents involve motorcycles.
