California (USA) continues to report large numbers of whooping cough (pertussis) cases

With 7,980 cases of whooping cough (pertussis) reported statewide, California leads the country in the total number of cases. Some of the more affected counties include Sonoma, Napa and Marin counties.

Outbreaks of pertussis (whooping cough) can occur anywhere in the world at anytime. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to this disease by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations and their current immune status for pertussis are up-to-date prior to travelling.
