Cases of chikungunya fever in Dominican Republic continue to increase

Hospitals in the municipality of San Cristóbal report that they are treating up to 30 people per day with chikungunya fever. Because this virus has appeared for the first time in the Western Hemisphere, there is little, if any, immunity in the population, and the virus is expected to continue to spread.
