Cases of chikungunya fever reported from various provinces in Philippines

Health authorities have reported 58 confirmed cases of chikungunya fever among the 500 suspected cases registered in the country. The reports have come from metro Manila, Calabarzon, Western Visayas, and Northern Mindanao. Although the risk for the general traveller is low, travellers should be aware that many persons with chikungunya fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported. Travellers to areas where chikungunya fever has been reported can reduce their risk of exposure to chikungunya fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
