Cases of dengue fever continue to increase in Brazil

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has reported that Brazil has registered over 640,000 suspected and confirmed cases of dengue fever so far this year. There have been 213 deaths nationwide. In just one week, the total increased by over 100,000 cases. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
