Cases of scarlet fever double in Sussex, England

In the past month, the number of cases of scarlet fever have more than doubled, from 63 cases to 160 reported cases. The affected areas include West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton and Hove. Although the bacteria that cause scarlet fever are highly contagious, the high temperature, vomiting, flushed face and red, swollen tongue can be treated effectively with antibiotics.
