Cases*, deaths and outbreaks due to dengue fever have been reported in the following countries:

India

• National - 227 deaths; Maharashtra State 73 deaths
• Pune, Maharashtra State - 74 cases in last 10 days; Decreasing trend

Pakistan (Karachi, Sindh Province) - 715 cases; Increasing trend

New Caledonia - 161 cases, 1 death in last 2 months

Saudi Arabia (Jeddah) - 27 cases; Increasing trend

*Note: Due to incomplete reporting, lack of access to health care in some areas, and the fact that many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and be reported to health authorities, there may be many more cases in the community than are reported. Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
