Central African Republic - Update to civil unrest and armed conflict

Rebel forces are advancing toward the capital, Bangui. The United Nations is temporarily relocating nonessential staff and dependents. Some countries have warned against travel to this country and advised their citizens to leave. The Central African Republic (CAR) government cannot guarantee the safety of visitors in most parts of the country. Travellers, both citizens of the CAR and others, have been attacked in the countryside. Game hunters in the northern and eastern areas are at risk of attacks by poachers and armed men. The Lord’s Resistance Army poses a threat to hunters in the eastern area of this country.

Travellers should follow the advice of their country of origin and/or consider leaving the country until the situation is stable.
