Central Visayas earthquake death toll rises in Philippines

The severe earthquake that struck the Central Visayas Region has resulted in over 800 after shocks and considerable structural damage. At least 151 bodies have been recovered, 141 of whom were in Bohol Province, 9 in Cebu and 1 in Siquijor. More than three million people in 971 villages were affected by the powerful earthquake. At present, 37,424 persons are displaced.

Travellers should avoid travel in this region since essential services, including transportation, may be severely disrupted.
