Chikungunya fever cases reported from several places in the Philippines

Over 150 cases of chikungunya fever have been reported in Cagayan de Oro City, Pangasinan, and Manila. Last year, over 1,000 cases were reported nationwide. Travellers to the Philippines can reduce their risk of exposure to chikungunya fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with chikungunya fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
