Chikungunya fever cases reported in Western Visayas Region in Philippines

There have been 175 confirmed cases of chikungunya fever in the Western Visayas region. Affected provinces include Negros Occidental, Antique, Iloilo, and Guimaras. There are no reports yet from Capiz and Aklan. Travellers to areas where chikungunya fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to this virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with chikungunya fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
