Chikungunya fever in Caribbean reaches over 13,000 suspected cases

The primary outbreak of chikungunya fever virus continues to be on the islands in the eastern Caribbean. There have been 2,818 confirmed or probable cases. The total of all confirmed and suspected cases has reached 13,268 which is a 26 percent increase from the previous week.

There have been 4 confirmed deaths, 3 on St. Martin and 1 on Martinique. Although no new islands have reported outbreaks, the number of cases in French Guyana is slowly increasing.
