Chikungunya fever outbreak expands in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo.

Health authorities have reported a dramatic increase in the past two weeks in the number of cases of chikungunya fever in the epidemic that began in the southern districts of Brazzaville. The total number of suspected cases has reached approximately 1,000.

Since there is no vaccine or specific treatment other than relief of symptoms, travellers to this area should be aware of the increasing risk of exposure to chikungunya virus and take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
